Chile News
The Press
Chile has a long tradition of free press but the quality is uneven. The five major dailies include just a tiny amount of international news. El Mercurio is considered to be the most serious of Chiles dailies, but still has only a minimal coverage of international news. El Mercurio was folded in 1827 in Valparaíso. It has been in continuous publication ever since, making the longest-running newspaper in South America.

Television
TV is even worse than the
press, dominated by dreadful soaps and half-naked adolescent dance
shows. But it is a very commanding media in Chile. Almost every household
in Chile owns a television and it is mostly permanently switched
on.
Cable TV offers arround eighty channels, many US films and series with spanish subtitles. CNN, BBC World and MTV are widely available.
